Two Weeks In A Row?? 3 Times In About 5 Weeks?? WTF!

That’s how many times I’ve had to call 911 at work. Yep, out of the 12 years I’ve worked as a medical office assistant, I’ve only had to call 911 about half a dozen times…perhaps even less. Approximately a month ago, I had a patient go into convulsions and stop breathing. That was probably the 2nd worst situation I’ve been in here. The worst was about a year or 2 ago when a patient collapsed due to a hemorrhage. Last week Wednesday, I had a patient with a heart attack.

Today, a patient came in bleeding profusely from his nose. He said that he’d been bleeding for 2 hours prior to walking into our office. Why he didn’t just go straight to the hospital, I will never know! He ended up making quite a bit of a mess...leaking a bit in our waiting room and all over our washroom sink and floor. I got him to lie down in one of the examination rooms and buzzed my boss to quickly take a look at him while I tried my best to clean up the mess. I was in the washroom on my hands and knees equipped with gloves, bleach and a sponge when my boss knocked on the door and said I needed to call the ambulance. The doctor couldn’t stop the bleeding no matter what he did so he thought it was best. “Here we go again.” I thought to myself, ripping off my gloves and running to the phone. This happened within the 1st hour of my work day! Once the paramedics took him away to the hospital, I felt drained! It didn’t help that I was getting woozy from the bleach fumes when I was cleaning!

Shit, I hope this doesn’t become a habit! It gets so crazy in situations like these and I don’t know how much it can take. It seems so long ago that I took a few days off on stress leave and it was at the beginning of this month!

Sweet 19 And Now She’s A Queen!

Amanda’s been working part time with me since April. Since then, we’ve gotten quite close. We’re like sisters…in fact, that’s what we call each other. It’s great because I know have the little sister I always wanted. She turned 19 on October 12…for those of you who are non-Canadian…19 is the legal age for drinking/clubbing out here! It fell on a Thursday. Her mom threw a birthday party for her at a local pub and my lil’ sister got wasted! So wasted that she did not go to school or work the next day! Hey, you only turned 19 once! I plan to take her to her first night club soon. We were supposed to go out this passed week but she wasn’t feeling well…no, it wasn’t a hang over! LoL! At least I don’t think it was! :)

Just wanted to dedicate an entry to her cuz she is just that special to me! I made a montage of Amanda and I a little while ago…I wanted to share it. There’s background music so I suggest to pause or stop the mp3 player on the top right of this site. The song I chose is Best Friend by Brandy…if you listen to the lyrics, you’ll know why I chose it!

Mission Impossible?

Tuesday, October 17 was the set release date of Darien Brockington’s debut CD entitled Somebody To Love. As some people know, Tuesday is one of the longest days in my work week. I work practically 12 hours. When my alarm went off, I laid in my bed thinking about my day before I got up: go to the office, work my long ass shift and run downtown to get the CD. I finally got up and looked out the window. It was pouring rain outside and didn’t stop not once that day! If you remember back in September when I met D, it was pouring shit ass rain due to a hurricane! What is it with rain and Darien! I actually even wrote him about it and he laughed his ass off at me!

So I went to the HMV Superstore right smack downtown, figuring if anyone were to have it, they’d have it for sure. WRONG! I roamed into the R&B section, looking around and found nothing! I approached the guy who worked there…who was pretty handsome…and told him I was looking for a CD that was supposed to be released. “What genre?” he asked and I told him Soul/R&B. He smiled and said, “Let me guess, Darien Brockington, right?” I was pleasantly surprised when he told me a few people have already been in asking about it but unfortunately, the CDs hadn’t arrived yet. I was a little disappointed but when I got home, I found out what happened. D posted a blog on his myspace stating that the distribution company screwed up and sent out the units just the Friday before so the CDs wouldn’t get to the shelves until the day after. The other thing I didn’t realize is that the preview site the label had set up to listen to the album before release crashed due to all the hits he was getting! All I could say was WOW! He also stated that sales were doing pretty well with the CD being available on iTunes and presale orders. When I wrote D about my ordeal, he was so excited about people asking about the album! He was so cute...typing in all caps! LoL! I promised him that I’d check on Thursday again since I work really late on Wednesdays.

Thursday, I walked in and the same guy was working there again. As soon as he saw me, he smiled, waved and pointed to a shelf. There it was right next to Diddy, Monica and whoever else that had CDs released recently. I was also happy to report that the shelf wasn’t totally full which means a number of them had already been sold!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Now, if only I can get his butt up here for a show….

Bumming Around

Yep, that’s what I did the few days I was off last week. It was just what I needed. I managed to sleep in here and there which is really good considering my sleeping habits lately were pretty terrible. Wednesday, I didn’t do much at all. I ran some errands then lazed around. My boss called me a few times but it was that bad. He was quite apologetic when he called but he did have a few questions for me that only I would know the answer too. Thursday was busy. First I went out to lunch with my sister in law, Angela, sister, Carm and her friend from work that I’m cool with, Sharon. We went to a Caribbean Restaurant called Sunrise…Mmmm! Not as great as homemade but it satisfied my craving for island food! After lunch, I did some errands and a bit of shopping in order to pass time until I had to pick up my cousin, Jojo for dinner. We were celebrating her birthday which was the week before. Jojo and I don’t get together much cuz we live on opposite sides of the city so we had fun at dinner. After that, I went to see Amanda who was so cute cuz she called and said that she missed ‘her Lady Vee’. I missed her too…hey, we see each other practically every day at work…it was weird not hanging around her. While Amanda and I were out for coffee, one of my boys, TB, met up with us for a bit. After awhile L-Boogi called and we decided to go party. It was funny cuz when we went to the place we planned to go to we found out it was shut down! In my mind, I was like, “Wow, we’re outta the loop! Damn, I’m old!” LoL! We walked around the corner to Fluid Lounge, a place we used to frequent back in the day. We bumped into a bouncer we knew and he let us in for free. We had a decent time there and I must admit that I danced a lil’ more than usual. We had a downer while we were there though. I ran into one of my patients, Kurwin who I’m pretty cool with and his boy, Dennis. Seeing them wasn’t the downer. Dennis was a bouncer that we knew and used to see a lot when we used to frequent Seven Lounge. Earlier in the year, I found out through a patient who is a cop that there was a shooting there. I felt nauseated when I found out because we knew a lot of the people that worked there. I never did find out who it was…until Thursday. It was Dennis. The poor man was shot a total of 8 times from his abdomen down to his thigh! I believe he told Linh that he now has a metal rod in his thigh and a metal plate in his hip! Not only that, the mutherfucker that shot him only got 9 years. A friend that took law enforcement in school said the guy would probably be out in 3! I was in shock! Dennis looked good considering but from that night on, I prayed for his strength and recovery. Bouncers are way under paid for what they are faced with…especially nowadays.

All in all, everything was good. I’m back at work and I feel refreshed, relaxed, not as stressed as I was before. I came in Tuesday expecting a pile of work for me to catch up on but there wasn’t much. When my boss came in, he smiled and I think I heard a bit of a sigh of relief! I was actually questioning whether I should start to consider changing jobs before I arranged any time off because I was so miserable. I think I’ll stay awhile longer.

Random Ramblings Volume 4

It’s official! I am taking the next few days off and I‘m really looking forward to it! I don’t have any real plans except for going for lunch with a few people and I’m taking my cousin who turned 30 last week, out to dinner. The time off is really coming at a good time because I feel extremely drained at this point. I think I really stretched it. The good thing is that it’s Thanksgiving weekend here so it will be like being off a week!

My boy, Darien Brockington’s CD is due out for release in stores October 17th and is available as of October 3rd on iTunes! He let me know that anyone is able to preview to the entire album online. Here’s the link: Somebody To Love. Anyone who has love/appreciation for true soulful R&B music will truly enjoy it. I’ve been listening to it non stop from beginning to end! Rarely do I get a CD that I listen to like that. I usually end up skipping through tracks but this album is a masterpiece and I’m not just saying that because I know him! Yep, we still keep in touch since the day we met. He’s doing a few shows in the US right now and I’m trying to get him to come up here. When he does, you best believe that I will be telling everyone to come out!

Big UPS!: A very happy, happy to all the folks I know that had birthdays this passed month: Love to my girl, Deedra (Sept 26), my cousin, Jojo (Sept 28), my boys Ugo(Sept 4), Shawn (Sept 7) and of course, Darien (Sept 14) as well! May you have many, many more to come! Big ups also goes to my girl, L-Boogi who’s moving on to bigger and brighter things as she changes jobs! Good luck even though I know in my heart, you don’t really need it! ;o)
